We can assist to get your police clearance certificate, whether you are in South Africa or in another country.
What is a police clearance?
Also known in other countries as a criminal record check / criminal background check / record of good standing. It is an official certificate issued by the Criminal Record Centre (CRC) of the South African Police Services (SAPS), which declares that you don’t have any criminal record against you.
Who needs a police clearance?
What does it mean to attest a document? Please note that various terms are being used by different embassies to describe the same thing. Other terms being used:
NOTARISING, VERIFICATION, RATIFICATION
To have a document attested (notarised / verified / ratified) means that the document must be inspected and approved by the embassy of the country where the document is going to be used.
No document could be submitted to an embassy as it is; it first has to be authenticated by one or more South African government departments.
(Apostilling / Apostillisation and Authentication)
All official documents must be legalised in order to be used in another country. This function is performed only by one office in South Africa, namely the legalisation section of the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (DIRCO).
The legalisation of a document means that DIRCO will check and investigate if the signature on a document is authentic. Once they have confirmed that the signature (and therefore the document too) are authentic, they will either Apostillise or Authenticate the document.
A document that has been Apostilled, will be accepted in the recipient country without any further query or investigation. A document that has been Authenticated usually still has to be attested by the embassy of the country in which it is going to be used.
An employer in a foreign country may request you to have one or more of your documents to be translated in the official language of that country.
You can’t just ask anyone who speaks that language to translate your document; it has to be an official translation, done by a sworn translator who is registered with the High Court.
We could assist to get your documents translated officially. Next, we could assist to get both the original document and the translated version legalised or attested.
